Inspiration: Flagler College Graphic Design

A fairly simple website for the graphic design program at Flagler designed by Scott Jehl, a fellow designer/developer in the Boston area. It’s more about the little things in this design that get my attention as well as the focus on content. I also like this site much better than the actual Flagler College website.

gotta agree about the "myspace-ness" of it, but really nice subtle texture work. The red/black type works very nice on it.

How can you compare this well thought out layout to the jumbled mess that is myspace? Y’all cant be serious. Is that what the world is coming to these days…to actually think someone would purposely try to mimic mysppace. If you having concerns about the integrity of this layout, go to the Scotts website and you’ll see the level of work he does.
ps. what can I say about myspace that hasn’t already been said about Afghanistan…It looks bomb out and depleted.

A myspace page? Unlike myspace, this site appears to feature a clean functional design, as well as an attention to web standards and usability. Kudos to Scott for this one. (Scott, just checked out your site– love your work!)

Like Myspace because it uses the same aesthetic as many 14 year olds who would like to believe they can skateboard and the typography has the same mistakes that come with CSS generators like in the menu as well as superfluous details.
For instance, why doesn’t the lead-in vertically align with the "chapter numbers". Yeah, as a designer, I know it’s because those are OSF numbers, but visually it looks terrible and like someone who just threw Georgia on their Myspace page. For serif masthead numbers, use Times.
Another thing about those numbers, why do they have periods following them after a lead-in? Kind of redundant and unnecessary and reinforces the look of misalignment.
And considering that it appears nowhere else in the look/feel of the site, the headers really don’t need that drop shadow that’s reminiscent of the late 90s love affair with bad photoshopped type.
Myspace… maybe not, but it definitely looks like a Target/Mossimo t-shirt. They’ve been doing that distressed heraldry for quite some time now.
Scott can do better as his website shows.

Uhh, myspace? It’s a nice layout, although projecting the exact opposite image of myspace. If any critique is to be given, it would be why the reflection of the past to appeal to a new generation of current designers.
Designers in general are more interested in something that is not the norm which this fits.

My friend goes there and I’ve visited many times. It really gives the whole feel of the school. The antiquated old-school architecture plus the new-school level of education.

How can this even be compared to Myspace?! The only similarities is the two column layout. If that means it’s similar, then you’ve just grouped probably more than half the sites on the interwebs!
